I know the verses; I sang the songs. I left because of what I saw: hypocrisy, hurt, questions met with fear, or claims I could no longer square with reality. Leaving cost me something, so don't tell me it was lazy.
Where we already agree
Nearly everything, including, often, grief. And an insistence Christianity itself endorses: truth over comfort, and Jesus's own fury at religious hypocrisy. Their sharpest critiques of the church are frequently HIS.
The question this path walks toward
One distinction, honestly applied: what did you actually reject, Christ, or the people who claimed him and failed you? He said they would fail; he reserved his anger for them, not for the doubters. If the building burned down, that is evidence about the builders. The question that remains is the one that was there before the building: who is he? Did you leave him, or did you never quite get past them to meet him?
